Is a vaccine or cure actually close?

Every year there is an article saying a breakthrough is coming. Is any of it real or is this permanent hope management?

NoteMember experience, not medical advice. Symptoms overlap between infections and only a test can tell them apart.

There is real research and there has been for decades, including therapeutic vaccines aimed at reducing outbreaks and shedding rather than preventing infection, and gene editing approaches aimed at latent virus.

Nothing has reached routine clinical use. The honest summary is that the science is genuinely active and no timeline anyone gives you is reliable.

The pattern to watch for in the articles is whether a result is in cell culture, in mice, or in humans, and at what trial phase. Most of the breathless coverage is from the first two and the distance from there to a clinic is enormous.

I stopped following it daily and my mental health improved considerably. Existing treatment already makes this manageable for most people, and living on the assumption of rescue next year was its own kind of trap.
