Medical Disclaimer

stdforum.net is a peer support forum. It is not a medical service.

Everything posted on this site is written by members of the public describing their own experience. Members are not screened for medical qualifications. Nothing on stdforum.net is medical advice, a diagnosis, a treatment plan, or a substitute for care from a qualified clinician.

What this means in practice

  • Symptoms do not identify an infection. Chlamydia, gonorrhoea and trichomoniasis produce overlapping symptoms, and often none at all. Herpes lesions are frequently mistaken for other skin conditions. No one on this forum, including a member who has had the same infection, can tell you what you have from a description or a photograph. Only a test can.
  • Do not delay testing. If you think you have been exposed to a sexually transmitted infection, get tested by a sexual health clinic, a doctor, or an accredited laboratory. Many infections are treatable and several are curable, and outcomes are better the earlier they are found.
  • Do not change or stop treatment based on a post here. Dosages, drug interactions and follow-up testing are decisions for the clinician who knows your history.
  • Test windows and result interpretation vary by infection, by test type and by laboratory. A member quoting a window period from another country, another year, or another test is not necessarily wrong, and is not necessarily right for you.

Emergencies

If you are having a medical emergency, contact your local emergency number or go to an emergency department. Do not post and wait for a reply.

If you are in crisis or having thoughts of harming yourself, contact a local crisis line. A new diagnosis can be frightening and isolating, and that reaction is common, but this forum cannot provide crisis support.

Moderation and accuracy

Moderators remove posts that promote unproven cures, sell treatments, or give instructions that could cause harm. Moderation is not fact checking. Posts that remain visible have not been verified for medical accuracy.
