Genital warts

Am I spreading them by shaving?

I shave regularly and new ones keep appearing in a line along where the razor goes. That cannot be a coincidence.

It is probably not a coincidence. Micro trauma to skin is thought to make it easier for the virus to establish, and a blade dragged across a lesion and then across intact skin is a plausible route.

Stopping shaving in the area during treatment is a common piece of advice for exactly this reason.

I switched to trimming and the pattern of new ones stopped. That is one person’s experience rather than proof, but the mechanism is sensible enough that it is worth trying.

If you do keep shaving anywhere, do not reuse the blade and do not go over treated skin. That is the minimum.
