Warts diagnosis and now I am worried about my throat

Read about HPV and throat cancer and now I am examining my own tonsils in a mirror. Is there a connection with the types that cause warts?

Generally not. Throat cancers associated with HPV are overwhelmingly linked to one of the high risk types, not to the low risk types that cause visible warts.

So a wart diagnosis is not an indicator for that risk, and the two are usually different viruses in the same family.

There is also no screening test for oral HPV in routine use anywhere, so there is nothing to ask for even if you wanted it. What exists is dental and medical examination of anything persistent.

The rule I was given and now repeat: anything in the mouth or throat that does not settle within a few weeks gets looked at. That applies to everyone and it is a good rule regardless of HPV.
