Allergic to that class of antibiotic

Told the standard injection is in a class I react to. What happens now?

NoteMember experience, not medical advice. Symptoms overlap between infections and only a test can tell them apart.

There are alternative regimens for exactly this situation and they are set out in the guidelines. They are used less often, so a clinician may need to look them up, which is normal rather than worrying.

A test of cure is generally recommended when a non first line regimen is used, because the evidence base behind the alternatives is thinner.

Describe the original reaction precisely. A stomach upset years ago and an actual allergic reaction get recorded under the same word by patients and they lead to very different decisions.

The newly approved oral options may also be relevant to people who cannot have the standard injection, since that is close to how one of them was framed. Worth asking whether it is available to you.
