Gonorrhoea found in pregnancy

Picked up at an antenatal screen. Told it is treatable but I am struggling to stop worrying about the baby.

NoteMember experience, not medical advice. Symptoms overlap between infections and only a test can tell them apart.

Treatment in pregnancy is established and the first line injection is used in pregnancy, so you are not being given a compromise option.

The reason it is screened for is that untreated infection at delivery can cause a serious eye infection in the newborn. Treated before then, that risk is dealt with.

Expect a test of cure. It is more consistently recommended in pregnancy than outside it, and it is the appointment worth protecting in a calendar that is already full of appointments.

Your partner needs treating too, otherwise the loop reopens before delivery. That part sometimes gets lost when all the attention is on the pregnancy.
