Do I have to tell my dentist?

Dental appointment coming up and the form asks about medical conditions and medication. I am torn between honesty and self protection.

NoteMember experience, not medical advice. Symptoms overlap between infections and only a test can tell them apart.

Clinically the useful reason to tell them is medication interactions and oral health, since some conditions show up in the mouth and some drugs matter for dental prescribing. It is not about infection control, which is universal regardless.

Whether you are legally obliged varies by country and is worth checking rather than assuming.

You can also answer the medication question honestly without a conversation. Listing what you take tells a clinician what they need to know, and most will simply note it.

If you do disclose and get treated badly, that is worth reporting rather than absorbing. Confidentiality and non discrimination are professional obligations, not favours.
