Do I need the HPV vaccine as well?

Living with HIV. HPV vaccination was mentioned in passing at a clinic appointment. I am in my thirties and assumed I was past it.

NoteMember experience, not medical advice. Symptoms overlap between infections and only a test can tell them apart.

Recommendations for people with HIV often differ from the general population, including wider age eligibility and in some places a different number of doses.

The reasoning is that HPV related disease, including anal and cervical precancer, is more common with HIV, so prevention matters more.

Ask the HIV clinic specifically rather than a general service, because the general age cut offs are what a non specialist will quote at you.

It fits alongside the screening conversation rather than replacing it. Vaccination protects against types you have not met, screening finds changes from ones you have.
