The mental health part of this

Physically I am fine. Medication is working, numbers are good. I am not fine in any other sense and nobody at the clinic has asked.

NoteMember experience, not medical advice. Symptoms overlap between infections and only a test can tell them apart.

Raise it directly at your next appointment, because most HIV services have or can refer to psychological support and it is considered part of care rather than an extra.

The reason nobody asked is usually a fifteen minute appointment focused on bloods, not a judgement that it does not matter.

Peer support was what worked for me, more than anything clinical. Talking to people who had been diagnosed years earlier did something that no amount of good news about viral load did.

The gap between the medical outlook being genuinely good and feeling anything like fine is normal and it is not a sign that you are handling it badly. It took me about a year.
