At home self collection kit. Is it as good?

There is now a kit you can use at home and post back. I have avoided screening for years because of the examination. Is this a genuine equivalent or a compromise?

For HPV testing, self collected vaginal samples perform very well, and that is why guidelines and regulators have moved on this. Self collection in a clinic was approved first, and at home collection followed.

The distinction worth holding: it is an HPV test, not a cytology test. If the HPV result is positive you will usually still need a clinic appointment for the next step.

Guidelines for self collected samples were published in 2025 and screening bodies have been updating around them. What is actually available to you depends on your country and on whether your programme has adopted it yet.

The important part of your post is the years of avoidance. A self collected sample you will actually do is enormously better than a perfect sample you will not. That is the whole argument for it.
