HPV

Vaccinated as a teenager and still got HPV

Had the full course at school. Now HPV positive. Feels like it did nothing.

NoteMember experience, not medical advice. Symptoms overlap between infections and only a test can tell them apart.

The vaccine covers specific types, not every type in the family. There are dozens, and a positive result for a type not in your vaccine is entirely expected.

It matters which vaccine you had too, because the earlier ones covered fewer types than the current one.

Worth asking which type you have and which vaccine you received. It usually turns out to be a type that was never covered, which is a very different story from the vaccine failing.

Population data shows large falls in the types the vaccine covers and in high grade cervical disease in vaccinated cohorts. It worked. It just did not promise what people heard.
