Pubic lice

Still itching two weeks after treatment

No live lice that I can find. The itch has not gone. Do I treat again?

Do not automatically re treat. Itching commonly persists for one to two weeks after successful treatment because it is an allergic reaction to bites, and the bites do not stop itching the moment the insect is gone.

Re treating in the absence of live lice mostly irritates the skin further.

Scratching keeps it going too. Something soothing on the skin and keeping your nails short helps more than another round of insecticide.

Go back if you find something alive, if the itch is getting worse rather than slowly better, or if the skin looks infected. Those are different situations from a lingering itch.
