Pubic lice

Is this the same as head lice treatment?

I have a bottle in the cupboard from when the children had head lice. Can I use that?

They are different species, but several of the same active ingredients are used for both. That said, formulations differ and some head lice products are specifically not intended for use on genital skin.

Check with a pharmacist before using what you have rather than assuming interchangeability.

Check the expiry date as well. Half used bottles from a previous outbreak are usually older than people think, and that contributes to apparent treatment failure.

Head lice and pubic lice also do not really colonise each other’s territory, so finding one is not a reason to assume the other.
