Pubic lice

How do I know they are actually gone?

Treated twice, nothing visible, itch nearly gone. I keep checking and I would like a way to close this off.

NoteMember experience, not medical advice. Symptoms overlap between infections and only a test can tell them apart.

The practical test is finding no live lice about a week after the final treatment. Empty egg shells stuck to hair are not evidence of ongoing infestation and can be ignored or combed out.

Residual itch for a week or two afterwards is expected and is not a sign of failure.

Set yourself an end date rather than checking indefinitely. One proper look in good light a week after the second treatment, and then stop. The checking becomes its own problem otherwise.

If you are still uncertain, one clinic appointment settles it in a minute with better light and more experience than either of us has. That is a better use of a week than another six inspections.
