Trichomoniasis

Can I use a gel instead of tablets?

I have had a vaginal gel before for something similar. Could that work here and spare me the tablets?

NoteMember experience, not medical advice. Symptoms overlap between infections and only a test can tell them apart.

No, and this is an important distinction. Topical gels of this drug family do not reach adequate levels in the sites where the organism lives, including the urethra and the glands nearby.

Cure rates with topical treatment are poor and guidelines specifically advise against it for trichomoniasis.

The gel you had before was probably for bacterial vaginosis, where topical treatment is a legitimate option. Same drug, different infection, different answer.

If the tablets are the problem, the conversation to have is about which tablet rather than about avoiding oral treatment altogether.
