Trichomoniasis

Irritation continued but the retest was negative

Treated, retested a month later, negative. Still irritated and uncomfortable. Where does that leave me?

A negative retest is meaningful and it means something else is causing the symptoms. Common candidates are bacterial vaginosis, thrush, skin conditions affecting the vulva, or irritation from products.

Repeatedly retesting for trich will keep giving you the same negative and will not move this forward.

Vulval skin conditions are underdiagnosed and frequently mistaken for recurrent infection for years. If nobody has examined the skin properly as skin, that is worth asking for.

Stop anything scented in the meantime, including wipes, washes and bubble bath. A surprising proportion of persistent irritation clears with that alone.
