Trichomoniasis

Fourth episode this year. Is it resistance?

Treated four times since January. Same symptoms, same result each time. I am starting to think the drug does not work on mine.

Resistance does exist and it is described, but it is uncommon relative to how often people present like this. The far more frequent explanations are reinfection from an untreated partner and incomplete treatment.

So the order is usually: confirm partners were treated, confirm the course was completed, then investigate resistance.

If those are genuinely excluded, ask to be referred rather than given a fifth identical course. There are higher dose and longer regimens used for suspected resistant infection, and some places can arrange susceptibility testing.

Write the timeline down before the appointment: each treatment, each drug, each partner situation. Four episodes is hard to convey verbally and the pattern is what will get you referred.
