I froze at the clinic and did not mention oral sex. Should I go back?

Went in for a screen, they asked what kind of sex I had had, and I just said the minimum. I was embarrassed and I wanted to be out of the room. They took a urine sample and that was it.

Now I am reading that a urine test does not cover your throat and I feel stupid. Do I go back and say I left something out?

NoteMember experience, not medical advice. Symptoms overlap between infections and only a test can tell them apart.

Go back. You will not be the first person that day, let alone that week. They ask about sites of exposure for exactly one reason, which is to decide where to swab, and a urine sample genuinely tells them nothing about your throat or rectum.

You do not have to explain why you did not say it the first time. “I want to add throat and rectal swabs” is a complete sentence.

This is the single most common reason people get a clear result and an infection at the same time. There are threads on this forum from people whose throat swab was positive with nothing anywhere else, found only because they asked.

Something that helped me: write it down before you go in and hand the paper over. I could not say it out loud but I could write it, and the nurse just read it and got on with the swabs without making it a moment.
