How do I keep this private from the people I live with?

I need to get tested but I live with family and I am worried about post arriving, texts appearing on a shared tablet, or someone answering the phone. It is not that anyone would be cruel, I just do not want the conversation.

How have people handled the practical side of this?

NoteMember experience, not medical advice. Symptoms overlap between infections and only a test can tell them apart.

Tell the clinic. This is a normal request and most services have a way to handle it. Mine asked at registration how I wanted results delivered and whether it was safe to leave a voicemail. They also have an option for plain envelopes with no clinic name.

Say it plainly: “I share a household, please do not post anything and do not leave a message.”

Practical bits that caught me out: check what name your clinic shows up as in a bank statement if you pay for anything, and set your phone so message previews do not appear on the lock screen. The lock screen was the one I nearly missed.

If home testing is available where you are, some services let you collect from a pharmacy instead of posting to your address. Worth asking rather than assuming post is the only option.
