What do I do with things I cannot wash?

Bedding and clothes are dealt with. What about a duvet that does not fit my machine, and a couple of things that would be ruined by a hot wash?

Seal them in a plastic bag and leave them. Two weeks is the usual advice and it works because lice do not survive long away from a human host, and eggs left in a bag hatch into nothing to feed on.

Washable items go on a hot cycle and a hot dryer. Anything else, bag it or have it dry cleaned.

You do not need to clean the whole house. There is no reason to steam the sofa or shampoo carpets. What matters is items in direct and recent contact with your body: bedding, towels, underwear, the clothes you actually wore.

Worth saying because people spiral into cleaning as a way of feeling in control. Treat yourself properly, treat partners, do a normal hot wash, bag what you cannot wash. Everything past that is anxiety rather than hygiene.
