How far back do they go when tracing partners?

Diagnosed and asked how far back my partners go. I gave the recent ones and then realised I did not know what period they actually needed.

It depends on the stage. Syphilis is staged, and the further along it is when found, the longer the look back period, because the infection may have been present for a long time before it was diagnosed.

Early stage means a relatively short window. Later stage can mean going back a year or more. Your clinic will tell you the period that applies to your diagnosis, so ask them directly rather than guessing.

Use anonymous partner notification for anyone you cannot face contacting. They contact the person to come in for testing without naming you. It is a standard service and this is exactly the situation it exists for.

Do not filter the list by whether you think they could have it. Give the clinic the period they ask for and let them decide. I nearly left someone off because it did not seem plausible.
