Will this show up on my insurance or my parents plan?

I am on a family health plan and I need testing. My worry is the statement that gets posted home afterwards listing what was done and where.

Has anyone dealt with this? I would rather pay out of pocket than have that arrive at the house.

The document you are thinking of is the explanation of benefits, and yes, it usually goes to whoever holds the policy. It is the single most common reason people on a family plan avoid testing.

Two things that usually work. Public sexual health clinics often provide testing free or at low cost and do not bill your insurance at all, so nothing is generated. And in a lot of places there are confidential communication requests, where you ask the insurer in writing to send your statements to you rather than the policyholder.

Ask the clinic directly what shows up before anything is run. Reception deals with this question constantly and can usually tell you exactly what the paperwork will say.

Paying out of pocket at a walk in clinic is also a legitimate choice and is often much cheaper than people expect for a basic screen.

Whatever you do, do not let the paperwork be the reason you skip it. An untreated infection is a much bigger problem than an awkward conversation, and there is nearly always a route that avoids the conversation entirely.
