Can chlamydia cause an eye infection?

Red, gunky eye that will not settle, and my partner was recently treated for chlamydia. Feels like a strange connection to make but a pharmacist raised it.

Not strange at all. Chlamydia can infect the eye, usually through contact with infected genital fluids, and it can look like an ordinary stubborn conjunctivitis that does not respond to the usual drops.

Mention the exposure explicitly when you go in. If nobody knows to look for it, it gets treated as a routine eye infection and does not clear.

Same happened to a friend, weeks of drops before anyone joined the dots. The giveaway was that it kept coming back.

If it turns out to be that, you would also want a full screen rather than treating the eye alone. It got there from somewhere.
