Do lysine or any supplements actually help?

Recommended lysine, zinc and half a dozen other things by well meaning people. Is any of it supported or is it all noise?

NoteMember experience, not medical advice. Symptoms overlap between infections and only a test can tell them apart.

The evidence for supplements here is weak and inconsistent. Some small studies suggest something, others show nothing, and none of it is close to the evidence behind antiviral treatment.

That does not mean anyone taking lysine is foolish. It means do not swap something that works for something that might.

Be careful with anything sold specifically to herpes forums. Selling unproven treatments is against the rules here for a reason, and this diagnosis attracts a lot of people happy to take your money.

What did measurably change things for me was sleep and not being permanently exhausted. Unglamorous, free, and more reliable than anything in a bottle.
