Gonorrhea

Do I need a test of cure if it was genital only?

Treated for genital gonorrhoea. No follow up swab was offered and after reading here about throat retests I wondered whether I should be asking for one.

The distinction is deliberate. A routine test of cure is recommended for pharyngeal infection because the throat is harder to clear. For genital infection it is not routinely recommended in the same way.

What is recommended for everyone is a retest a few months later, which is about reinfection rather than whether the treatment worked.

The exception is persistent symptoms. If anything is still going on after treatment, that is its own reason to be seen, regardless of what the routine schedule says.

Book the three month retest before you leave. Everyone means to arrange it later and a good share of the reinfection threads here start with someone who did not.
