Why a test of cure for the rectal site and nowhere else?

Told to come back for a repeat test on one site only. Seemed arbitrary until I started reading, and now I want to check I have understood.

NoteMember experience, not medical advice. Symptoms overlap between infections and only a test can tell them apart.

You have understood it correctly. Cure rates at the rectal site are lower than at genital sites, which is why several guidelines single it out for a repeat test while not asking for one routinely elsewhere.

The timing matters: too soon and the test can still pick up dead organism rather than live infection, which is why they give you a date rather than saying come back whenever.

Worth separating test of cure from the three month retest. The first asks whether the treatment worked. The second asks whether you have been reinfected. They are different questions and both exist.

Book it while you are still in the building. That appointment has the highest no show rate of anything in this process, and it is the one that actually answers something.
