Chlamydia

How long have I had this? Trying to work out who to tell

Positive result and no symptoms ever. I have no idea whether this is weeks old or years old, and the partner notification conversation depends on it.

NoteMember experience, not medical advice. Symptoms overlap between infections and only a test can tell them apart.

There is no test that dates an infection, which is the frustrating honest answer. Asymptomatic chlamydia can sit for a long time.

What clinics do instead is work with a look back period, a standard window they ask you to notify within. It is a practical convention rather than a claim about when you caught it.

Ask what look back period they use for your situation and work to that. It takes the guesswork out and it also takes the blame out, because you are following a rule rather than making an accusation about a date.

If the conversation is the hard part, the clinic notification service exists precisely for this and does not name you. Using it for the awkward ones and telling the others yourself is a completely normal way to handle it.
