Doxycycline and my contraceptive pill

Vaguely remember being told antibiotics stop the pill working. Is that still the advice or is it out of date?

Largely out of date. The blanket warning about all antibiotics has been dropped in most guidance, because the interaction was only ever established for a specific class that is rarely used now.

The caveat that still holds: if the antibiotic makes you vomit or gives you severe diarrhoea, absorption of the pill can be affected, and that is handled by the usual missed pill rules.

Ask a pharmacist. Thirty seconds, no appointment, and they answer this question professionally rather than from memory of a leaflet from 2004.

Separate point but worth saying: neither the pill nor the antibiotic does anything about transmission. You still need the wait before sex, and your partner still needs treating.
