Can I be tested while I am on my period?

Appointment is booked and the timing has turned out badly. Do I need to move it, or does it not matter?

NoteMember experience, not medical advice. Symptoms overlap between infections and only a test can tell them apart.

For most of what a screen covers it genuinely does not matter. Urine samples and blood samples are unaffected, and that covers chlamydia, gonorrhoea, HIV and syphilis.

Where it can matter is a cervical screening sample, and some clinics prefer to rearrange that one. That is a different appointment from an infection screen in most systems.

Ring reception and say exactly this. They are asked it constantly and will tell you in one sentence whether to come or rebook. It is not an embarrassing question to them, it is a scheduling question.

I went anyway and nobody blinked. The thing I would not do is cancel and then not rebook, which is what happened the first time I hit this.
