How long do people stay on suppressive treatment?

Started daily tablets after a bad run of outbreaks. Nobody mentioned an end point and I am not sure whether this is a year or a decade.

There is no fixed end point. The usual approach is to review periodically, often annually, and see whether you still need it.

Outbreak frequency tends to fall over time for most people, so a dose that made sense in year one may be unnecessary in year four. That is the point of the review.

Long term use has a good safety record and people have stayed on it for many years in follow up studies. So the review is about whether you still need it rather than whether it is safe to continue.

The other reason people stay on it is a partner who does not have it. If reducing transmission risk is part of why you started, that reason does not go away when your outbreak count does.
