Urine test positive, swab negative. Which one is right?

Two samples, two different answers, same appointment. Nobody explained which one they are going by.

They are testing different sites, so they are not really in conflict. A positive at one site and a negative at another usually means the infection is at the first site and not the second.

They will treat on the positive. A negative elsewhere does not cancel it out.

Sampling also varies in how well it captures what is there. A poorly taken swab can miss an infection that is present, which is another reason a single negative does not override a positive.

Ask which sites were sampled and what each one said. Getting the results as a list rather than as one summary word clears up most of this confusion immediately.
