Is the vaccine worth it if I already have HPV?

Late twenties, recently found out I have HPV. Someone suggested getting vaccinated anyway and I can’t work out whether that makes any sense given I already have it.

It can still make sense, because the vaccine covers several types and you’re unlikely to have been exposed to all of them. It won’t treat what you already have, which is the part that gets misunderstood.

Whether it’s recommended and whether it’s funded for your age varies a lot by country, so that’s a question for your own clinic rather than for us.

Exactly this. I asked mine and got a clear yes or no in one conversation after weeks of guessing online.

Two additions to what has already been said.

It covers the types behind most genital warts as well as high risk types, so the benefit is not only about cancer risk. And it does not replace screening, whatever your vaccination status, because it does not cover every type and does not treat what is already there.

Vaccinated or not, keep the screening appointments. They answer different questions.
