After a negative result, when does the clock restart?

Negative screen last week. Does that cover me from now on, or only up to a certain point in the past?

NoteMember experience, not medical advice. Symptoms overlap between infections and only a test can tell them apart.

Only up to a point in the past, and how far back depends on the infection. A test taken today cannot see something acquired three days ago, because nothing is detectable yet.

So a negative covers your history minus the window period for each thing tested, and says nothing at all about anything since.

The practical consequence is that if you had an exposure shortly before testing, that exposure is not covered and needs a later test. People often read a negative as a clean slate and stop there.

Ask the clinic whether anything needs repeating and when. If there is a specific incident, say the date. They will tell you which of the results already cover it and which do not.
