Allergic to metronidazole. What else is there?

Reacted badly to metronidazole years ago. Now diagnosed with trich and unsure what happens.

There is another drug in the same family that is commonly used, and some people tolerate one and not the other. That is the first thing a clinician will consider.

Where there is a true allergy to the class, there is a supervised desensitisation route, done by specialists rather than at a routine appointment.

Describe the old reaction precisely. Feeling sick on a course years ago is a very different conversation from hives or swelling, and people label both as allergy.

Do not let it drift while you sort it out. Ask what the plan is and when, rather than leaving with an unresolved appointment and no date.
