Are tablets really as good as the injection?

Following on from the shortage thread. I would genuinely prefer tablets. Is the injection better or just traditional?

NoteMember experience, not medical advice. Symptoms overlap between infections and only a test can tell them apart.

The injection has the strongest evidence and the longest track record, and it is the recommended first line treatment everywhere.

The alternative has been used for a long time in people who cannot have penicillin and does have supporting evidence, but it is a smaller and less rigorous body of work.

The other difference is practical rather than pharmacological. The injection is given and complete. A course of tablets depends entirely on you taking every dose for weeks, and that is where real world outcomes diverge.

There are also situations where the alternative is not considered acceptable at all, pregnancy being the clearest one. So preference has limits depending on your circumstances.
