Can I get tested at a pharmacy?

There is a pharmacy near me advertising testing. Is that a real service or is it a way of selling me something?

NoteMember experience, not medical advice. Symptoms overlap between infections and only a test can tell them apart.

Pharmacy testing is a real service in a number of countries and is often how public programmes reach people who will not go to a clinic. It is usually limited in scope, commonly chlamydia and sometimes HIV.

The thing to check is what happens if something is positive, and whether that is included or whether you are then sent elsewhere.

Read whether it is a free public scheme or a commercial product before you hand over money. Both exist, sometimes in the same shop, and the commercial panels are frequently much broader than anyone actually needs.

Convenience matters more than people admit. A slightly narrower test you will actually do beats a comprehensive one you keep postponing.
