Can I have children?

Diagnosed two years ago, undetectable. My partner does not have HIV. Is a pregnancy realistic without putting anyone at risk?

Yes. Sustained undetectable viral load means the virus is not transmitted sexually, and that applies to conception as much as to anything else.

Transmission to a baby is also preventable with treatment in pregnancy and appropriate care at delivery, with very low rates where that care is in place.

Tell both your HIV clinic and any obstetric team early rather than at the first scan. There is a well established plan for this and it works best when it starts before conception.

If there is any uncertainty about consistent suppression, that is exactly what the preconception conversation is for. Do not decide alone in either direction.
