Chlamydia

Chlamydia and I have an IUD. Will they take it out?

Diagnosed this week. Worried the answer is that the coil has to come out and I go through the whole insertion again.

Usually no. The general approach is to treat the infection with the device left in place and to review if things are not improving.

Removal comes into the conversation in more serious situations, for example if there is established pelvic inflammatory disease that is not responding, and even then it is a judgement rather than automatic.

What makes the difference is symptoms. Pelvic pain, fever, pain during sex, unusual bleeding. Those move it from routine treatment to something needing closer review, so report them rather than absorbing them.

Ask the question directly at the appointment. Mine answered it in a sentence and I had spent two days imagining a much worse conversation.
