Do I have to give my real name at the clinic?

I want to be tested but I do not want my name in a system that could follow me around. Is anonymous testing actually a thing or is that something people imagine?

NoteMember experience, not medical advice. Symptoms overlap between infections and only a test can tell them apart.

It varies enormously by country and by service, so the only real answer is to ring and ask.

What is fairly consistent: sexual health services are used to this question and are generally bound by strict confidentiality rules, often stricter than general medical records. Some services operate genuinely anonymously, some take a name but keep the record separate from your main file.

Worth separating two different worries. Anonymous testing exists in some places. But if something comes back positive and needs treating, or needs partner notification, most systems need some way to contact you.

That is not surveillance, it is so you get your result. Ask what they keep and who can see it.

One thing I would push back on gently: a record at a sexual health clinic is not the liability people imagine. What actually follows you around is an untreated infection.
