Pubic lice

Do I have to shave everything off?

First instinct was to shave. A friend says that does nothing and makes the skin worse.

Your friend is broadly right. Shaving is not required and is not the recommended treatment. The lotion or foam treats the hair and skin regardless of length.

Shaving also irritates already itchy scratched skin, and it can spread lice to other hairy areas if you move a razor around.

People do it anyway out of a feeling of needing to do something drastic. Understandable, but treat properly and the shaving adds nothing except discomfort.

If you shave routinely anyway, wait until treatment is done and the skin has settled. Do not do it in the middle of a course.
