Genital warts

Do I need to tell my dentist or my doctor?

Getting a filling next month and now wondering whether this is something medical staff need to know.

NoteMember experience, not medical advice. Symptoms overlap between infections and only a test can tell them apart.

Your dentist does not need to know about genital warts. There is no infection control implication for routine dental work.

Your own doctor may be worth telling if you have ongoing treatment or if you take medication that affects your immune system, because that changes how these behave.

The situations where it genuinely becomes relevant are pregnancy, immune suppression and anything involving surgery in the area. Outside those it is not a disclosure anyone is waiting for.

I over disclosed for a year out of a vague sense of duty and it achieved nothing except a lot of awkward moments. Tell people for whom it changes something.
