Chlamydia

Does chlamydia ever clear on its own?

Read somewhere that a proportion of infections clear without treatment. If that is true, why treat at all?

Some do clear spontaneously, and that is genuinely in the literature. The problem is that you have no way of knowing whether yours is one of them, and no way of knowing how long it would take.

Meanwhile you are infectious, and meanwhile the small risk of it ascending is running.

It is a bit like asking why treat a fracture that might heal crookedly on its own. The existence of a spontaneous outcome is not an argument for waiting to see which one you get.

Treatment is a week of tablets. The downside of treating unnecessarily is small and the downside of not treating something that persists is not.
