Does PrEP protect against anything else?

Started PrEP a few months ago. A friend seems to think it covers more than HIV. That does not sound right.

NoteMember experience, not medical advice. Symptoms overlap between infections and only a test can tell them apart.

Your friend is wrong, and it is a common and consequential misunderstanding. PrEP is for HIV and nothing else.

Chlamydia, gonorrhoea, syphilis, herpes and HPV are all unaffected by it, which is why regular screening is built into PrEP care rather than being optional.

The partial exception people half remember is doxycycline after sex, which is a separate thing entirely, targets bacterial infections, and is recommended for specific groups rather than for everyone on PrEP.

The quarterly appointments are the point here. Being on PrEP means someone is actually looking for the rest of it regularly, which is more than most people get.
