Trichomoniasis

Does trich affect cervical cancer risk?

Saw this mentioned somewhere and could not tell whether it was a real association or internet noise.

There are observational studies reporting associations between trichomoniasis and cervical abnormality, but association is doing a lot of work in that sentence.

HPV is the cause of cervical cancer. Trich is not established as an independent cause, and the overlap in who gets both makes the studies hard to interpret.

The practically useful version is unchanged: attend cervical screening. That is where cervical risk is actually managed regardless of what else you have had.

Inflammation can affect a sample though, so mention a recent trich diagnosis when you attend screening. That is a sample quality point rather than a risk point.
