Does trich cause problems in pregnancy?

Diagnosed at twenty weeks. Told it is treatable and not told much else.

NoteMember experience, not medical advice. Symptoms overlap between infections and only a test can tell them apart.

It is associated with preterm birth and low birth weight in observational studies, which is why it is treated rather than left.

The evidence on whether treating it during pregnancy improves those outcomes is genuinely mixed, which may be why you got a short answer. Treatment is still recommended, partly for your symptoms and partly to stop transmission.

The drug used is considered acceptable in pregnancy and has a long record of use, so that part is not the uncertainty.

Ask your midwife or obstetric team as well as the sexual health service. They handle this regularly and can put it in the context of everything else in your pregnancy rather than as an isolated result.
