Fourth generation test at 4 weeks, how worried should I be?

Had a possible exposure, tested at four weeks with what the clinic called a fourth generation test, negative. They told me to come back for a final one. I understand the logic but I cannot stop checking my body for symptoms.

How much weight does a four week negative actually carry?

NoteMember experience, not medical advice. Symptoms overlap between infections and only a test can tell them apart.

Quite a lot, and the follow up isn’t because they doubt it. Fourth generation tests look for both antibodies and an antigen that appears earlier, which is why they detect infection sooner than older antibody-only tests. A negative at four weeks is meaningful and reassuring.

The final test exists to close the door completely. Take it, and then let yourself actually put it down.

On the symptom checking, that’s the part that got me too. I convinced myself of three different things in one week. Nothing you feel is going to be more informative than the test, and the test is already booked.

If the anxiety itself is the problem, and mine was, say so at the appointment. They deal with this constantly.

Final test done, negative. Posting for anyone finding this later at 3am like I was.
