How long does HPV take to clear? Getting a different number everywhere

One page says months, another says two years, another implies forever. I have a high risk type and normal cells and I would like one straight answer about the timescale.

There is a straight answer, it is just a range rather than a date.

Most infections clear on their own. The figures usually quoted are around 70 per cent clearing within a year and around 90 per cent within two years, with a median duration of new infections of roughly eight months.

So the honest sentence is: most likely within two years, and the follow up screening you have been put on is how they find out whether yours has.

The word forever comes from a different question, which is whether the virus is ever completely gone from the body or only suppressed below what tests can see. Interesting scientifically, largely irrelevant to your management, which is driven by what screening finds.

My first screen after diagnosis was still positive and I took it badly. The second one was clear. Being still positive at one year is inside the normal range rather than a bad sign in itself.
