How often should I actually be getting screened?

Every page I read says something different. Once a year, every three months, only when you change partner. I want a rule I can actually follow rather than a shrug.

What do people here do?

NoteMember experience, not medical advice. Symptoms overlap between infections and only a test can tell them apart.

There is no single number because the sensible interval depends on what you are actually doing, not on some universal schedule.

The pattern most services use is roughly annual for anyone who is sexually active, and more often if you have more partners, if you have had an infection recently, or if you are on PrEP, which carries its own testing schedule regardless.

What worked for me was tying it to something I already do rather than to a calendar. New partner, book a screen. Relationship ends, book a screen. That way I am never trying to remember when the last one was.

Ask the clinic to tell you what interval they would suggest for you specifically. They ask a few questions and give you a number, and it takes two minutes. Far better than assembling a rule out of forum posts, this one included.
