HPV positive after menopause

Late fifties, one partner for twenty years, and a positive high risk result. I genuinely do not understand how.

NoteMember experience, not medical advice. Symptoms overlap between infections and only a test can tell them apart.

The likeliest explanations are long standing infection that has persisted quietly, or reactivation of virus acquired decades ago. Both are recognised.

A new positive at this age is not evidence of recent exposure and should not be read that way.

Clearance rates are lower in older age groups, which is part of why a positive result later on is followed more carefully rather than waved through.

Do keep attending. The other thing that happens at this age is people deciding they have aged out of screening, and the programmes have specific rules about when screening actually stops.
