Is HPV 16 worse than the others?

My result names the type. Everything I read about that number is more alarming than the general HPV information.

It is the type most strongly associated with cervical cancer and with HPV related cancers generally, and it does carry more risk than the other high risk types. That is why some programmes triage it differently.

What has not changed is that most infections with it still clear, and that the pathway from persistent infection to cancer is long and screened.

Some screening programmes send people with this type straight to colposcopy rather than waiting a year, precisely because of that risk difference. Worth asking what your programme does.

Knowing the type is an advantage even when it is frightening. It is the information that lets them manage you appropriately rather than generically.
